RINGCENTRAL AI RECEPTIONIST, PRICED OUT

A business desk phone in an office, the kind of line an AI receptionist like RingCentral AI Receptionist answers

In short: RingCentral AI Receptionist starts at $49 a month for 100 minutes. After that, every minute is 50 cents. That’s cheap for a slow phone and expensive for a busy one. Here’s what it does, what a real shop pays, and when you’re better off somewhere else.

People search “ringcentral ai receptionist” about 6,600 times a month in the US. Most are owners shopping for an AI receptionist. They check the big name first. Smart. Here’s the math RingCentral leaves for you to do.

What is RingCentral AI Receptionist?

RingCentral calls it AIR. It’s an AI that answers your business phone. Here’s what it does, straight from RingCentral’s own page:

  • Answers calls day and night, weekends and holidays, and takes more than one call at once.
  • Books and moves appointments on Google, Outlook or Calendly calendars, then texts to confirm.
  • Sends calls to the right person, with a short note on what the caller wants.
  • Talks in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese.
  • Sets itself up from your website. You fix it from there.

It’s a solid product. The question is the bill.

RingCentral AI Receptionist pricing

RingCentral pricing for the AI receptionist comes two ways. Here’s their pricing page:

Screenshot of RingCentral AI Receptionist pricing: $49 a month standalone, or $39 plus $30 a month with RingEX, 100 minutes included

Plan Monthly price Minutes included After that
AI Receptionist on its own $49 100 50 cents a minute
AI Receptionist with RingEX phone $39 + $30 a user 100 50 cents a minute

A few things to know:

  • The $30 is RingCentral’s Core phone plan, for each user. It’s $20 if you pay for a year up front.
  • Minutes are billed in 30-second chunks. A 61-second call counts as a minute and a half.
  • Both plans have a 14-day free trial.
  • The standalone plan is only sold that way in the US and Canada.

What 100 minutes really means

100 minutes sounds like a lot. It’s not.

Say the average call lasts three minutes. That’s about 33 calls. A busy plumber, roofer or HVAC shop takes that many calls in a few days. After that, you pay 50 cents for every minute, all month.

So the $49 plan is really for a slow phone. Once the calls pick up, the 50 cents a minute is the real price.

What a busy shop really pays

Here’s the monthly bill at different call volumes. “Ours” is our AI receptionist at $297 a month plus 6 cents a minute.

Minutes a month RingCentral on its own RingCentral with RingEX (1 user) Ours
100 $49 $69 $303
300 $149 $169 $315
600 $299 $319 $333
1,000 $499 $519 $357
2,000 $999 $1,019 $417

RingCentral is cheaper under about 680 minutes a month. Past that, the 50 cents a minute takes over, and our AI receptionist at $297 a month costs less with every call.

RingCentral or a RingCentral alternative?

Pick RingCentral if your phone is slow, you want to set it up yourself, or you’re already on RingCentral’s phone system.

Pick something else if your phone rings a lot, you don’t have time to set it up, or you hate surprise bills. A storm, a heat wave or a freeze can double your calls overnight. At 50 cents a minute, so does your bill.

That’s why ours is an AI answering service with a flat monthly price and a low rate per minute. A busy month shouldn’t cost you double.

What our AI receptionist does

  • Answers every call. Day and night, weekends and holidays.
  • Sounds like your front desk. It answers with your business name.
  • Books the job on your calendar while the caller is still on the line.
  • Sends the call to you when the caller needs a person.
  • Keeps your number. You forward your calls to it.
  • We set it up and keep it sharp. You don’t build anything.
