In short: At $0 to $100 a day you have one job. Find one ad that works. Here is the ad formula, what to test, and what to ignore until it does.

Most people get stuck at this stage. They spend weeks on account settings. They read about bidding rules and audience stacks. None of that matters yet. One great ad in a plain campaign beats a perfect account with dull ads.

This is part one of four posts on Facebook ads by spend level. Read them in order.

Why the ad matters more than the settings

Meta changes its tools all the time. A trick you learn today is old in a year. What does not change is people. What makes someone stop, read, and click has stayed the same for decades.

So learn the ad, not the dashboard. An ad is called a creative. It is the image and the words. At this stage, the creative is the whole game.

Make the ad look like normal content

People come for posts, not ads. An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped. An ad that looks like a post gets read.

So study what people already read on these apps. Look at the big news and gossip pages. You do not have to like them. You have to learn from them. Those posts get the most eyes on the planet.

Your ad should feel like one of those posts. Raw photo. Plain words. Something odd enough to make the thumb stop.

Here is the rule. Nobody reads an ad they scrolled past. Get the read first. The click comes after.

Three parts of a scroll-stopping ad

Every winning ad we run has three parts.

  1. A pattern break. Something that does not fit the feed. A strange photo. A hand holding a part. A red circle around one thing. It makes the thumb stop.
  2. A reason to keep reading. The photo should raise a question. What is going on here? The reader has to find out.
  3. One big, specific promise. Say the one result your buyer wants. Only the right people will care. That is the point.

Get all three in one ad and it will pull.

What goes in the ad, piece by piece

Use this checklist for every ad.

  • The image. Raw and real. No stock photos. No studio shots. A phone photo from a real job or a real desk wins.
  • The headline. Under 45 characters. Promise the result and raise a question at the same time.
  • The first line. This is the most ignored part of any ad. It is the 11 to 14 words above the image. Do not put a coupon there. Do not say what you sell. Drop the reader into a moment. A problem they have. A result they want. A worry they have at night.
  • The body. Write it all out first. Then cut. Paste it into the Hemingway app. Aim for a fifth grade level or lower. Remove anything it marks red or yellow.
  • The button. Use Learn more. Not Shop now. Not Book now. It gets more clicks every time.

Images only at this stage

Do not make videos yet. Not even quick AI ones. A video takes hours. An image takes minutes.

Your only goal is to find a winner. Someone who tests thirty image ads will beat someone who edits one video. Make many. Make them well. Test them all.

Where to get ideas if you are stuck

Try this. Make a new Instagram account and a new TikTok account. Follow the five biggest pages in your field. Like and comment on their posts. Close the app.

Open it the next day. The app will now suggest posts. Those are the posts that are already working. Screenshot the ones that stop you. Save them in a folder. That folder is your idea file.

One more source. If you post on social media already, look at your best posts. Turn those into ads. They are already proven. You are not guessing with money.

A real example

We ran this for Parcel Management Group, a freight company. Plain image ads. One clear promise. A Facebook lead form. The result was 49 leads in 30 days at $17.70 each.

Nothing fancy. One good ad and a system behind it.

Not sure what to spend? Use the ad budget planner. It gives you a daily number based on what a customer is worth.

Next: $100 to $1,000 a day, the campaign setup that adds 30 to 50 percent.

We can do this for you

You can do everything above yourself. Most owners do not have the hours. Dead River Management builds and runs it for businesses nationwide and in El Paso. You keep running your company. We write the ads, test them, and follow up every lead. We use Demand Intelligence to find people already shopping for what you sell. You judge us on booked jobs, not reports. Questions

Should I use video or image ads when I start?

Images only. You can make and test twenty image ads in the time one video takes. Your job at this stage is to find a winner fast. Video comes later.

What budget do I need to find a winning ad?

Enough to test a few ads a week. For most businesses that is $20 to $100 a day. Keep the money in one simple campaign and let the ads compete.

What button should the ad use?

Learn more. It gets more clicks than Shop now or Book now at this stage. People want to find out, not commit. Let the page do the selling.

How much should I spend on Facebook ads per day?

Start at $20 to $100 a day. That is enough to test three to five ads a week and see which one wins. Raise it only after one ad is bringing leads at a cost you can live with.

Do Facebook ads work for small business?

Yes, when the ad looks like a post and the follow-up is fast. A freight company we work with got 49 leads in 30 days at $17.70 each. The ad did the work. The settings did not.

How long does it take for Facebook ads to work?

The first leads can come the same week. Finding a real winner usually takes two to four weeks of testing. Most people quit in week one. Do not.
