SEO FOR ROOFERS: HOW TO GET FOUND WHEN THE ROOF STARTS LEAKING

In short: SEO for roofers means showing up on Google when a homeowner searches for roof repair, roof replacement or storm damage in your area, without paying for every click. It comes down to five things: a finished Google Business Profile, a page for every job you want, reviews every week, a site that loads fast, and listings that match everywhere.
A roof is a $10,000 to $30,000 decision, and most homeowners make it in a hurry. Water’s coming through the ceiling, or a storm just rolled through. They grab their phone and search. Whoever shows up and answers first usually gets the inspection.
That’s why roofing SEO matters. You’re not trying to win a popularity contest. You’re trying to be one of the few names a homeowner sees when they need a roofer right now.
What roofing SEO actually is
SEO stands for search engine optimization. For a roofer, that means making it easy for Google to understand three things: what you do, where you do it, and why a homeowner should trust you.
There are two places you’re trying to show up.
- The map. Search “roof repair near me” and the first thing you see is a map with three roofers on it. That’s where a lot of the calls go. Getting in it is local SEO.
- The regular results. Under the map are the websites. That’s where your service pages, area pages and articles compete.
Good roofing SEO covers both.
Start with your Google Business Profile
This is the cheapest win in roofing marketing, and most roofers leave it half done.
- Categories. Your main category should be Roofing contractor. Add Roof repair and any others that fit. I break this down in Google Business Profile categories.
- Services. List every service you sell, with a short description.
- Photos. Real roofs you finished, not stock photos. Before and after shots work great.
- Posts. Post after every storm and every big job. It keeps the profile alive.
- Reviews. Ask after every job. More on that below.
If you want the full list, here’s my checklist to rank higher on Google Maps.
Build a page for every job you want
One “Services” page with a list of bullets won’t rank for anything. Google wants a page that answers one search really well.
A roofer usually needs these:
- Roof repair
- Roof replacement
- Storm damage and hail damage
- Roof inspections
- Commercial roofing, if you do it
- Insurance claims help, if you do it
Each page should answer the question in the first paragraph. What is it, who it’s for, roughly what it costs, how fast you can get out there. Then show photos of real jobs, a few reviews, and a free inspection form.
Add area pages, but don’t fake them
If you cover several towns, a page for each main area can help. The mistake roofers make is copying the same page 20 times and swapping the city name. Google sees right through that, and those pages end up fighting each other.
Make each area page real. Jobs you’ve done there. Photos from that town. The kind of roofs and weather you deal with there. If you can’t write something real about a town, don’t make a page for it yet.
Reviews are part of SEO
Homeowners compare stars and review count before they call anybody. So does Google. You don’t need a thousand reviews. You need more than the roofers next to you in the map, and you need new ones every month.
The easiest way is a text after every job with a direct link. One tap. Here’s how to get a review after every job.
Fix the technical stuff
You don’t have to understand all of it. You just need someone to check it.
- Speed. Homeowners search on their phone. If your site takes forever to load, they hit back.
- Click to call. Your phone number should be one tap on every screen.
- Indexing. Google has to be able to find your pages. If you’re not sure, read is your website on Google.
- Matching listings. Your name, address, phone and hours should be identical on your site, Google, Yelp, Bing, Apple Maps and the directories. Every mismatch costs you trust.
Show up in AI answers too
More homeowners are asking ChatGPT or Google’s AI “who’s a good roofer near me.” Those tools read the same pages Google does. Clear facts, real numbers, matching details across the web and good reviews are what get you named. Here’s how to get AI to recommend your business.
SEO or Google Ads?
Here’s the honest answer. SEO takes time. Most service businesses see early movement in two to three months and real results in three to six. Ads get the phone ringing this week, especially the morning after a storm when everyone’s searching “roof repair near me.”
The roofers who do best run both. Ads pay the bills while SEO grows. Then, over time, you lean less on paid clicks.
Our roofing marketing work shows how they fit together. Gonzalez & Sons Roofing went from about 2 roofs a month to about 8 in six months with Google Ads, storm pages and follow-up. You can read the case study.
Don’t forget what happens after the click
SEO gets you found. It doesn’t answer the phone. If a homeowner calls while you’re on a roof and nobody picks up, they call the next roofer. A missed-call text in under a minute and fast follow-up on every estimate matter just as much as rankings. Roofing quotes usually close on the third touch, not the first.
